31 Days to Stir Up

The Fire for the Harvest

One Scripture and one short prayer for each day. Pray it on the call, or carry it through your day.

Day 28 of 31 · Wednesday, October 28

Godly Marriages for Our Singles

How to pray today

  • Keep it short: pray for 3 to 5 minutes at most. A short prayer prayed with faith is enough.
  • Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join the call and pray together. Every voice counts, so don't hold back.
  • Read the Scripture aloud, pray the prayer below, then add your own words for the day's theme.

And the LORD God said, "It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him."

Genesis 2:18 (NKJV)

Read more: Psalm 68:6; Proverbs 18:22

Pray

Father, You set the solitary in families. Bring godly husbands and wives to the singles in our congregation. Keep them whole and content in You while they wait.

Prayer guide · six targets

Read the Scripture aloud, speak the declaration together, then pray the specifics by name. Where a line says “name,” say the actual name out loud.

  1. Target 1

    He who finds a wife

the single men and women of this congregation who desire marriage.

And the LORD God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.”

    Genesis 2:18 (NKJV)

He who finds a wife finds a good thing, And obtains favor from the LORD.

    Proverbs 18:22 (NKJV)

    Declare together

The Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” He still makes that provision.

He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord.

    Pray it specific

    • Name every single adult in the church who desires marriage.
    • Name yourself, if that is you, and say plainly what you are asking for.
    • Name the widowed and divorced among us who desire to marry again.
  2. Target 2

    Delight first

singles whose first delight is the Lord, and whose desires He shapes and gives.

Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.

    Psalm 37:4–5 (NKJV)

    Declare together

We delight ourselves in the Lord, and He gives us the desires of our heart.

We commit our way to the Lord. We trust also in Him, and He brings it to pass.

    Pray it specific

    • Name the desire, in detail.
    • Name the timeline you have been holding God to, and commit it to Him.
    • Name the delight you have in Him today, before the answer.
  3. Target 3

    Equally yoked

marriages to believers who walk the same direction.

Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?

    2 Corinthians 6:14 (NKJV)

Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?

    Amos 3:3 (NKJV)

    Declare together

We are not unequally yoked together with unbelievers. Light has no communion with darkness.

Two walk together because they are agreed. Our singles marry those who agree with them in the Lord.

    Pray it specific

    • Name the qualities that are not negotiable: faith, character, calling.
    • Name a relationship that is pulling you away from God, and end it.
    • Name the places where godly people can meet one another.
  4. Target 4

    Kept in honor

purity and strength in the waiting.

For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,

    1 Thessalonians 4:3–4 (NKJV)

But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

    Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)

    Declare together

This is the will of God, our sanctification: that we abstain from sexual immorality, and that each of us knows how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor.

Those who wait on the Lord renew their strength. They mount up with wings like eagles. They run and are not weary. They walk and do not faint.

    Pray it specific

    • Name the temptation and the time of day it comes.
    • Name the person you will be accountable to.
    • Name where you are weary of waiting.
  5. Target 5

    The solitary in families

no single person in this church is alone. Family now, before marriage.

God sets the solitary in families; He brings out those who are bound into prosperity; But the rebellious dwell in a dry land.

    Psalm 68:6 (NKJV)

For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly.

    Psalm 84:11 (NKJV)

    Declare together

God sets the solitary in families. He sets our singles in this family.

The Lord God is a sun and shield. The Lord gives grace and glory. No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.

    Pray it specific

    • Name a single person you will invite to your table this month.
    • Name those who live alone.
    • Name the lie that you have been forgotten, and answer it with these verses.
  6. Target 6

    What God has joined

covenant marriages that last, with Christ as the third strand.

Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up. Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; But how can one be warm alone? Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

    Ecclesiastes 4:9–12 (NKJV)

So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

    Matthew 19:6 (NKJV)

    Declare together

Two are better than one. If they fall, one will lift up his companion. A threefold cord is not quickly broken.

They are no longer two but one flesh. What God has joined together, no man separates.

    Pray it specific

    • Name the engaged and dating couples in the church.
    • Name the future spouse you have not met, and pray for them today.
    • Close by thanking Him aloud that He has heard.
